University of Toronto

I have created training material for over 15 years. The most current example of my work can be found on the University of Toronto's HIRE IEHPs (Healthforce Integration Research and Education for Internationally Educated Health Professionals) website. Developed by the University of Toronto and funded by the Government of Canada and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, this program focuses on successfully integrating internationally educated health professionals (IEHPs) into the Ontario workforce. I was responsible for research, concept development, and production of video and written content.

The Integration Journey

Costco Pharmacy

Working with Inline Digital Communications, I have helped to produce a variety of video-based e-learning programs.Costco Pharmacy wanted to offer additional value to its customers by holding an educational clinic about back pain. Part of this involved demonstrating proper prevention techniques with the help of an expert. In order to ensure they were providing the most up-to-date and accurate information available, we went straight to one of the foremost back pain specialists in the world. Dr. Stuart McGill is Director of the Spine Biomechanics Laboratory at the University of Waterloo and is asked to speak internationally about spine biomechanics. The Costco back pain video features a detailed interview with Dr. McGill along with full animation, narration, and scenarios demonstrating accurate techniques.

Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada

The Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) needed to help prepare candidates for their complex two-day examinations, making them as simple and stress-free as possible. Working with the PEBC team, we produced two explainer videos—one for pharmacists, and another for pharmacy technicians—leading them through every step of the examination process. We produced both videos simultaneously in a one-day shoot, involving a team of professional actors and a complete film crew.

Overwaitea Food Group

Complete Care, which I researched wrote and helped to produce for Overwaitea Food Group through Pear Healthcare Solutions, helped pharmacy technicians to develop their sales and communication skills. It also taught them about patient health conditions and the products related to them. Because the bulk of the program was video-based, complex technical information became far more accessible to pharmacy technicians. Detailed scenarios allowed pharmacy technicians to see good sales and communication skills in action.

The Complete Care workbook, which I helped to research, write and produce, accompanied the video and provided additional training and support for pharmacy managers.

london drugs

The London Drugs cosmetics blog was developed by LD's cosmetics marketing department to highlight new products. I contributed to the blog for a number of years. This is one of my favourites:

LD Beauty

london drugs

EnerG Magazine was produced for London Drugs by Pear Healthcare Solutions. It appealed to women aged 25 to 50, and provided advertising opportunities for both health and cosmetics products. I helped to develop the overall concept for the magazine, researched story ideas for each issue, conducted interviews, and wrote the articles.

various pharmacy chains

I researched wrote and managed the distribution of quarterly diabetes and heart health newsletters for a variety pharmacy chains, including Zellers Pharmacy, Overwaitea Food Group, Save-On-Foods, Loblaws, and London Drugs

drug trading company

Drug Trading (DT) provides the Guardian and I.D.A. banner names for more than 850 independently owned pharmacies across Canada. They also offer leading-edge programs and services that give their members a competitive advantage. This video features DT's store planning program, designed to capitalize on the front shop. Rather than explain the benefits of front shop refurbishment, we introduced pharmacists to others who had enjoyed dramatic revenue increases. Our film crew travelled across Canada, capturing the stories of pharmacists whose businesses had been rejuvenated thanks to DT's store planning service.

ministry of health and long-term care

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care offers International Medical Graduates (IMGs) the opportunity to be trained and assessed for practice in Ontario if they agree in exchange to offer their expertise in one of Ontario's underserved communities for a specified period of time. This program is called Return of Service, and among IMGs, has been a source of controversy. We were asked to produce a video that would ease their concerns by showing how accommodating and rewarding the program actually is. We based our story in a community called Kinmount, Ontario.

ontario medical assocation

The Ontario Medical Association needed to convince young, debt-loaded medical students to invest in insurance plans, but were having difficulty helping them to see this as a real need. We introduced them to a paediatric surgeon who dramatically benefited from having OMA insurance.
